How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer or switch off the dedicated breaker before removing any panels or touching internal wiring.
Step-by-step checks:
- Verify door closure: Open and close the door firmly. Make sure the door is not sagging and that the latch engages fully. Inspect the plastic/metal door strike on the door for cracks or missing pieces.
- Test the door switch: With power disconnected, remove the top or front panel (depending on model) to access the door switch. Disconnect the switch harness. Use a multimeter set to continuity and check the switch terminals while pressing and releasing the actuator. It should show continuity when the door is closed (actuator pressed) and open circuit when released. Replace if readings are inconsistent.
- Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the door switch to the main control board for loose connectors, burnt pins, or damaged insulation. Reseat all connectors firmly.
- Control board check: If the door switch tests good and wiring is intact, the door input circuit on the main control board may be faulty. Visually inspect the board for burnt spots or corrosion. Replacement of the board is typically required if defective.
When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable removing the front/top panel or testing live circuits, or if the control board appears damaged, contact a qualified appliance technician.
