Possible Causes
Failed outlet thermistor, Shorted or open thermistor wiring harness, Poor thermistor connection at control board, Control board sensor input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before accessing internal components.
Step-by-step checks:
- Locate the thermistor: On most Speed Queen dryers, the outlet thermistor is mounted on or near the blower housing or exhaust duct inside the cabinet.
- Inspect wiring: Check the thermistor connector and wiring harness for damage, loose pins, or corrosion. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Test thermistor resistance: Disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance with a multimeter at room temperature. Compare to Speed Queen specifications (commonly in the 10k–50k ohm range depending on design). An open circuit or near-zero resistance indicates a bad sensor.
- Check at control board: If the thermistor tests good at the sensor, measure resistance from the harness at the control board end to rule out a broken wire.
- Control board: If wiring and thermistor are good, the control board's sensor input circuit may be defective and require replacement.
When to call a technician: If you do not have access to the correct resistance specifications or are unsure of readings, consult a professional.
