Possible Causes
Worn or frayed drive belt, Seized idler pulley, Misaligned or worn drum support rollers, Foreign object caught in drum seal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before removing the front or rear panels.
Step-by-step checks:
- Listen and locate: Run the dryer briefly (with panels on) to identify the general area of the noise (front, rear, bottom). Then disconnect power.
- Inspect belt and idler: Remove the front panel and drum. Check the drive belt for cracks, glazing, or missing ribs. Spin the idler pulley by hand; it should turn freely and quietly. Replace any noisy or stiff pulleys and the belt if worn.
- Check drum rollers: Spin each drum support roller. Replace rollers that wobble, are flat-spotted, or do not spin freely.
- Inspect drum seals: Look for coins, screws, or fabric caught in the front or rear drum seals. Remove debris and replace damaged seals.
When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable removing the drum or if the cabinet design is complex, professional service may be easier.
