Possible Causes
Failed drive motor, Faulty motor start capacitor (if fitted), Obstructed blower wheel or drum, Faulty motor relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer. Moving parts and live circuits are hazardous.
- Check for drum obstruction: Open the door and try to rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly with moderate resistance. If jammed, inspect for foreign objects between drum and front or rear bulkhead.
- Listen for motor hum: With the cabinet reassembled, briefly restore power and press Start. If you hear a humming noise but the drum does not turn, the motor or start capacitor may be failing. Disconnect power again immediately.
- Inspect blower wheel: Remove the rear or front panel to access the blower housing. Check for lint clumps, socks, or debris jamming the blower wheel.
- Test motor windings: Disconnect the motor harness and measure resistance across the main and start windings. Compare to service data if available; open or shorted windings indicate a bad motor.
- Check start capacitor (if present): Visually inspect for bulging or leakage. Test with a capacitance meter; replace if out of spec.
- If motor and capacitor test good: The motor relay or main control board may be defective and typically requires professional diagnosis or replacement.
