Possible Causes
Shorted thermistor, Thermistor wires shorted together, Moisture bridging thermistor terminals, Failed control sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before testing components.
- Access thermistor: Remove the rear or lower front panel to reach the exhaust thermistor.
- Visual check: Inspect for lint, moisture, or melted plastic around the thermistor.
- Resistance test: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance. A near-zero reading indicates a short.
- Inspect harness: Check for bare wires touching each other or the cabinet. Repair or replace as needed.
- Replace thermistor: Install a new Whirlpool thermistor if the old one is shorted or damaged.
- Control check: If a known-good thermistor and wiring are present but E2 persists, the main control board may need replacement.
