Possible Causes
Stuck keypad button, Failed user interface board, Loose ribbon cable between UI and main control, Moisture or contamination on control panel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before removing any control panel parts.
- Power reset: Unplug the dryer for 5 minutes to clear any temporary keypad lockup. Plug back in and test all buttons.
- Check for stuck buttons: Press each button individually. If one feels stuck or does not click, gently work it free. Clean around the button with a slightly damp cloth (no liquid into the panel).
- Access the console: Remove the top panel and then the screws securing the control console. Carefully tilt the console forward.
- Inspect ribbon cable: Locate the flat ribbon cable between the user interface (UI) and main control. Disconnect and reconnect it to clean the contacts. Ensure it is fully seated and not kinked or damaged.
- Check for corrosion or damage: Look for signs of moisture, corrosion, or burnt components on the UI board. If present, the UI board should be replaced.
- Replacement: If F02 persists after reseating connections, replace the user interface/control panel assembly using the correct Whirlpool part number.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the console and top panel, restore power, and verify all buttons respond and the error is cleared.
