Possible Causes
Failed door switch, Misaligned door strike, Broken door latch, Loose wiring to door switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer before working around the door switch or front panel.
- Check door closure: Open and firmly close the door. Ensure the door is not sagging and that the latch engages fully.
- Inspect door strike: Verify the plastic or metal door strike on the door is intact and lines up with the door switch opening. Replace if cracked or missing.
- Test door switch: With power disconnected, remove the top panel and front panel as needed to access the door switch. Disconnect the wires and test the switch with a multimeter for continuity when the button is pressed. It should show continuity when closed and open when released.
- Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the door switch to the main control for loose connectors or damaged wires. Reseat connectors.
- Replace door switch: If the switch fails continuity tests, install a new Whirlpool door switch assembly. Transfer any mounting brackets or actuators from the old switch.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall panels, restore power, and verify the F22 code is cleared and the dryer starts normally.
