Possible Causes
Shorted door switch contacts, Pinched door switch wiring, Moisture in door switch, Failed main control input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Disconnect power before testing or replacing electrical components.
- Inspect door switch operation: Open and close the door while listening for a distinct click from the door switch. If no click is heard, the switch may be stuck.
- Access door switch: Remove the top and front panel to reach the door switch. Disconnect the wiring harness.
- Continuity test: Using a multimeter, check the switch terminals. With the door open (switch released), there should be no continuity. If continuity is present, the switch is shorted and must be replaced.
- Check for pinched wires: Inspect the harness around the door opening and front panel for pinched or rubbed-through insulation that could cause a short.
- Replace switch: Install a new Whirlpool door switch if it tests shorted or mechanically stuck. Ensure the actuator aligns with the door strike.
- Control check: If a known-good switch and wiring are in place but F23 persists, the main control board input circuit may be defective and require replacement.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall panels, restore power, and verify normal operation.
