Possible Causes

Missing L2 leg at outlet, Tripped double-pole breaker, Loose power cord connection at terminal block, Burnt terminal block

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Turn off the dryer breaker and verify power is off before inspecting the terminal block. 240 VAC can be lethal.

  • Check breaker: Ensure the double-pole breaker feeding the dryer is fully on. Reset if tripped.
  • Test outlet voltage: With a multimeter and proper safety precautions, verify 240 VAC between the two hot legs and 120 VAC from each hot leg to neutral/ground at the dryer receptacle.
  • Inspect power cord and terminal block: Remove the rear cover over the terminal block. Look for burnt wires, loose screws, or melted plastic.
  • Tighten connections: If connections are loose but not burnt, tighten the terminal screws securely. Replace any damaged ring terminals.
  • Replace damaged parts: If the terminal block or cord is burnt, replace the terminal block and/or power cord with Whirlpool-approved parts.
  • Control reset: After correcting power issues, unplug the dryer for 5 minutes, then restore power and test operation.
