Digital Bradley smoker will not heat; display shows E1 shortly after power‑up.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker from the mains before removing panels or touching wiring. Allow the cabinet to cool completely.
Steps to troubleshoot E1:
- Check sensor plug at back wall: On most Bradley digital smokers, the temperature sensor (RTD probe) is mounted inside the cabinet near the top rear and connects through a small plug on the back wall. Make sure this plug is fully seated and not bent or corroded.
- Inspect sensor cable: Follow the sensor wires from the inside probe to the rear connector. Look for cuts, melted insulation, or broken conductors. If damaged, the sensor assembly should be replaced.
- Clean and reseat connectors: Lightly clean any oxidation on the rear sensor plug and the mating connector from the control box using electrical contact cleaner. Reseat firmly.
- Check continuity (advanced): With the smoker unplugged, remove the control box and disconnect the sensor leads from the board. Use a multimeter to verify the sensor has continuity and a resistance value that changes with temperature. An open circuit indicates a failed sensor.
- Replace the RTD sensor: If the sensor is open or physically damaged, install a new Bradley temperature sensor probe, routing the wire away from hot surfaces and sharp edges.
If E1 persists after sensor replacement, the fault may be on the control board and a qualified technician or Bradley support should be consulted.
