Possible Causes
Weak internal power supply on control board, Loose neutral or hot connection at terminal block, Undersized or damaged extension cord
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker before inspecting wiring. Do not work on live circuits if you are not trained.
- Check power source: Plug the smoker directly into a dedicated 120V outlet. Avoid long or thin extension cords that can cause voltage drop.
- Inspect power cord: Examine the Char‑Broil power cord for cuts, crushed sections, or burn marks. Replace the cord set if damaged.
- Verify internal connections: Remove the access panel to reach the terminal block where the power cord connects. Tighten any loose screws and ensure wires are fully inserted.
- Inspect control board power section: Look for burned components or cracked solder joints near the transformer or power supply components on the board.
- Replace control board if needed: If the external power is good and wiring is tight but E4 persists, the internal power supply on the control board is likely failing and the board should be replaced.
