Control panel shows ERR3 and smoker shuts down shortly after starting

Safety first: Unplug the smoker and allow it to cool completely. Do not bypass safety devices.

• Check airflow: Inspect the exhaust vent and intake openings for grease, foil, or debris blockage. Clean the vent cap and any screens with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly.
• Inspect the high‑limit thermostat: Access the back or bottom panel to locate the high‑limit thermostat (small disc thermostat mounted to the cabinet or near the heating element). Check for loose wires or signs of overheating.
• Manual reset (if applicable): Some high‑limit thermostats have a small reset button in the center. Once the smoker is cool, press the button firmly until you feel a click. Do not reset repeatedly without finding the cause of overheating.
• Test continuity: With the smoker unplugged, disconnect the wires from the high‑limit thermostat and test for continuity with a multimeter. An open circuit at room temperature indicates a failed thermostat that must be replaced.
• Replace faulty parts: If the high‑limit thermostat is open or the control board continues to show ERR3 despite proper airflow, replace the thermostat first. If the issue persists, the control board may be misreading temperature and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
