Possible Causes
Open heating element, Burned or loose element wiring, Failed relay on main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker and verify the cabinet is cool before accessing internal wiring.
- Visual inspection of element: Open the smoker door and inspect the heating element at the bottom of the cabinet. Look for breaks, heavy corrosion, or areas that appear burned through.
- Check wiring connections: Remove the rear or bottom access panel to expose the element terminals. Ensure the push‑on connectors are tight and not discolored or melted. Tighten or replace connectors as needed.
- Test the element: Disconnect at least one wire from the heating element and measure resistance across the element terminals with a multimeter. A very high reading (open) indicates a failed element. Compare to the expected resistance in the service manual if available.
- Inspect control board relay: Look at the main control board for a small relay that switches power to the element. Signs of burning or cracking suggest failure. This typically requires board replacement.
- Replace the heating element if open: Remove mounting screws or brackets holding the element, slide it out, and install a new OEM Char‑Broil heating element. Reconnect wires firmly and reassemble panels before testing.
