Possible Causes

Moisture intrusion into control panel, Damaged membrane keypad, Loose ribbon cable between keypad and control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the smoker before removing the control panel or front bezel.

  • Dry the control area: If the smoker was recently washed or exposed to rain, allow the control panel to dry for several hours in a warm, dry environment. Do not use direct heat guns on the plastic.
  • Inspect ribbon cable: Remove the screws securing the control panel. Carefully tilt it forward to access the ribbon cable connecting the keypad to the main board. Reseat the cable by unplugging and firmly reinserting it.
  • Check for corrosion: Look for green or white corrosion on connectors. Light corrosion can be gently cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Heavy corrosion usually requires part replacement.
  • Test keypad response: With the panel reconnected (but still open and safe), plug in the smoker and test each button. If some or all keys remain unresponsive, the keypad membrane is likely failed.
  • Replace the control panel assembly: Order the correct Char‑Broil electric smoker control panel or keypad assembly. Transfer any mounting hardware, install the new panel, reconnect the ribbon cable, and reassemble the front bezel.
