Possible Causes
Shorted relay on control board stuck closed, Temperature sensor reading too low, High‑limit thermostat bypassed or failed closed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker immediately if it is overheating. Keep the door closed until temperatures drop to avoid flare‑ups.
- Inspect control board: After cooling and unplugging, remove the control housing and inspect the relay that controls the heating element. If it is visibly burned or melted, the board should be replaced.
- Check sensor placement: Ensure the cabinet temperature sensor is properly mounted and not hanging near the door or in a cold spot. A sensor reading too low will cause overheating.
- Test high‑limit thermostat: Verify that the high‑limit thermostat opens at its rated temperature (requires heating and a multimeter). If it remains closed when hot, replace it.
- Replace faulty components: Install a new main control board or high‑limit thermostat as indicated by testing. Never bypass safety thermostats.
