Possible Causes

Cabinet temperature probe shorted internally, Probe wiring harness pinched or melted to chassis, Moisture or grease bridging probe terminals, Failed probe input circuit on IQ controller

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and let the smoker cool completely before opening any panels.

Diagnostic steps:

  • 1. Reset the controller: Unplug the smoker for 5 minutes, then plug back in and power ON. If ERR2 reappears, proceed.
  • 2. Visual inspection of probe and wiring: Locate the cabinet temperature probe inside the smoker. Check for heavy grease buildup, moisture, or metal debris that could bridge the probe body to the smoker wall. Clean gently with a non-abrasive pad and a mild degreaser, then dry thoroughly.
  • 3. Inspect wiring harness: Access the back of the controller and trace the probe wires. Look for melted insulation, pinched sections where the wire passes through the cabinet, or bare conductors touching metal. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
  • 4. Measure resistance: Disconnect the probe from the controller. Use a multimeter on ohms. A shorted probe will read near 0 Ω. If so, replace the probe.
  • 5. Check controller input: If a new or known-good probe still results in ERR2, the IQ controller’s probe input is likely shorted internally and the controller must be replaced.

Note: Do not operate the smoker with a known shorted probe or bypass the probe; this can cause uncontrolled heating.
