Possible Causes

Failed Cookshack circulation fan motor, Fan blade jammed by debris, Loose or broken fan wiring, Fan control output failure on IQ controller

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the smoker before reaching near the fan or removing panels.

Steps:

  • 1. Listen for fan operation: When starting a cook, you should hear the fan motor (on fan-equipped Cookshack models). If silent, suspect a fan issue.
  • 2. Inspect for obstructions: Remove racks and look at the fan area. Ensure no foil, meat, or debris is blocking the fan blade. Clear any obstruction.
  • 3. Spin test: With power OFF, gently spin the fan blade by hand. It should rotate freely. If stiff or seized, the motor likely needs replacement.
  • 4. Check wiring: Access the fan motor from the rear or side panel. Inspect connectors and wires for burns or disconnections. Reseat connectors.
  • 5. Test motor: If you are qualified, you can test the motor with appropriate voltage off the smoker to confirm failure. Otherwise, replace the motor if it does not run when powered by the controller.
  • 6. Controller output: If a new fan does not run, the IQ controller’s fan output may be faulty and require controller replacement.
