Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker before removing any covers. Live-voltage testing should only be done by qualified persons.
Basic checks:
- 1. Confirm power supply: Verify the outlet has correct voltage (120V or 240V depending on model) using a plug-in tester or multimeter. Check the household breaker.
- 2. Check internal fuses: Some Cookshack IQ controllers have an internal fuse. Remove the controller (with power disconnected) and inspect for a replaceable fuse. Replace only with the same rating.
- 3. Inspect high-limit thermostat: Locate the high-limit thermostat on the cabinet (often a small disc or resettable button). If it has a manual reset button, press it. If it is non-resettable and open when tested with a meter, replace it.
- 4. Test the heating element: Disconnect one lead and measure resistance. An open reading means the element is bad and must be replaced with a Cookshack-compatible element.
- 5. Check controller output (advanced): If the element and high-limit are good, the controller may not be sending power. This requires checking voltage at the element terminals with the smoker ON, which should only be done by a trained technician.
When to call for service: If you are not comfortable testing high-voltage circuits or if the controller board appears burnt, contact Cookshack or a professional appliance technician.
