Possible Causes
Meat probe not fully inserted, Wrong type of probe used (non-Cookshack), Damaged probe connector jack on controller, Internal controller firmware error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker before inspecting the controller jack.
Steps:
- 1. Use the correct probe: Ensure you are using a Cookshack-compatible meat probe designed for your IQ controller model.
- 2. Fully seat the plug: Push the probe plug firmly into the PROBE jack until it clicks or bottoms out. Partial insertion can cause detection errors.
- 3. Inspect the jack: Look inside the jack for bent or corroded contacts. If contacts are damaged, the controller may need repair or replacement.
- 4. Try a different probe: If available, test with another known-good Cookshack probe. If the error clears, replace the original probe.
- 5. Reset controller: Unplug the smoker for 5 minutes to reset the IQ controller firmware, then try again.
Note: Do not force incompatible probes into the jack; this can permanently damage the controller.
