Possible Causes
Cabinet temperature sensor out of range, Loose sensor connector on controller, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Failed A/D converter on IQ controller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal wiring.
Steps:
- 1. Power reset: Unplug the smoker for several minutes, then plug back in. If SENSOR returns, continue.
- 2. Inspect sensor wiring: Locate the cabinet sensor leads at the controller. Ensure the connector is fully seated and not corroded. Reseat it.
- 3. Check for physical damage: Inspect the sensor inside the cabinet and the wiring where it passes through the wall. Look for cuts, burns, or pinched spots. Replace the harness if damaged.
- 4. Measure resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to Cookshack specifications at room temperature. If the reading is far out of range, replace the sensor.
- 5. Controller diagnosis: If a new sensor does not clear the error, the IQ controller’s sensor input circuitry is likely faulty and the controller must be replaced.
