Cookshack
Insufficient wood combustion in Cookshack wood box
Very little or no smoke production even though smoker is heating
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Too little wood in wood box, Wood box not seated properly over element, Wood too dry and small (burns too fast), Heating element not contacting wood box area correctly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use heat-resistant gloves when handling the wood box. Allow the smoker to cool before making adjustments.
Steps:
- 1. Verify wood quantity: Use the recommended amount of wood (typically 2–6 oz). Too little wood may burn quickly and stop smoking.
- 2. Check wood box placement: Ensure the Cookshack wood box is fully seated in its designated position directly above the heating element.
- 3. Inspect element contact area: Confirm that the element passes under or near the wood box as designed. If the element is bent away, gently reposition it when cool.
- 4. Use proper wood size: Use chunks rather than chips. Chunks smolder longer and produce more consistent smoke.
- 5. Preheat with wood: Place wood in the box before preheating so it begins smoldering as the smoker comes up to temperature.
