Wood in Cookshack wood box not burning or only charring slightly

Safety first: Allow the smoker to cool before adjusting the wood box or element.

Steps:

• 1. Verify temperature: Ensure you are cooking at a temperature high enough to ignite the wood (typically above 180°F).
• 2. Check wood box seating: Make sure the Cookshack wood box is fully inserted and resting where the element can heat it.
• 3. Inspect element position: Confirm the element is not sagging away from the wood box area. Gently reposition if necessary.
• 4. Clean ash and debris: Remove any ash or debris under and around the element that could insulate it from the wood box.
