Possible Causes

Failed temperature probe (cabinet sensor), Broken or loose sensor wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the smoker from the outlet and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels.

  • Check sensor connection: Open the rear or side service panel (depending on model). Locate the cabinet temperature sensor where it enters the cooking chamber and follow its wires to the control board. Make sure the plug is fully seated and not corroded.
  • Inspect wiring: Look for cuts, melted insulation, or pinched wires between the sensor and the control module. Repair any damaged sections using high‑temperature wire and proper crimp connectors.
  • Test the sensor: With a multimeter set to resistance (ohms), disconnect the sensor from the board and measure across its two leads. A typical Cuisinart smoker thermistor will show a finite resistance (often 5–100 kΩ at room temperature). If the meter reads OL (open) or 0 Ω (short), the sensor is defective.
  • Clean sensor tip: If the sensor is heavily coated with grease or creosote, gently clean the metal tip with a non‑abrasive pad and mild degreaser, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not submerge the wiring.
  • Replace if faulty: If readings are out of range or the error persists, replace the cabinet temperature sensor with a Cuisinart‑compatible probe and reconnect firmly to the control board.
