Possible Causes
Stuck heating relay on control board, Shorted triac, Temperature sensor reading too low (offset), High‑limit thermostat bypassed or failed closed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately unplug the smoker if it is overheating. Do not continue using it until the fault is corrected.
- Verify sensor placement: Ensure the cabinet temperature sensor is properly mounted and not hanging near the door or vent where it reads cooler than actual.
- Inspect control board: With power disconnected, remove the control housing and inspect the relay or triac that drives the heating element. Look for welded contacts or burn marks.
- Check high‑limit thermostat: Confirm that the high‑limit thermostat is wired in series with the element and has not been bypassed. Test it for proper operation as described in other entries.
- Replace faulty components: If the relay is stuck closed or the triac is shorted, replace the main control board. If the thermostat is failed closed, replace it with the correct Cuisinart high‑limit device.
