Possible Causes
Loose or unplugged temperature probe connector at control board, Broken or cut temperature sensor wire harness, Failed RTD temperature sensor, Corroded sensor connector at cabinet penetration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker from the outlet and allow it to cool completely before removing any panels.
- Check sensor connection at the control panel: Remove the front control panel bezel (usually a few screws from the back or underside). Locate the small two‑wire harness from the cabinet temperature sensor to the control board. Make sure the plug is fully seated and not corroded.
- Inspect the sensor wiring: Follow the sensor wires from the control board into the smoker cabinet (often routed along the side wall). Look for cuts, melted insulation, or pinch points where the wire passes through metal. Repair minor damage with high‑temp wire and heat‑shrink, or replace the harness if badly damaged.
- Check the sensor at the cabinet: Inside the smoker, locate the fixed temperature probe (usually a metal rod or button on the back or side wall). Confirm it is firmly mounted and not loose. From the outside, verify the connector where the probe passes through the cabinet is tight.
- Test the sensor (if you have a meter): With the sensor unplugged from the board, measure resistance across the two sensor leads. A typical RTD/NTC sensor will show a finite resistance (often 1–100 kΩ at room temperature). If the meter reads OL/open, the sensor is bad and must be replaced.
- Replace the temperature sensor: If open or physically damaged, remove the mounting screws inside the cabinet, pull the sensor and grommet out, disconnect from the harness, and install a new OEM Dyna‑Glo temperature sensor. Re‑seal the penetration with high‑temp silicone if needed.
- Reassemble and test: Reconnect the control panel, plug the smoker back in, and power on. The E1 code should clear automatically if the sensor circuit is restored.
