Possible Causes
Moisture inside temperature sensor connector, Sensor wires shorted together where they pass through cabinet, Failed RTD/NTC sensor reading out of range, Control board misreading sensor due to internal fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker and let it cool completely before inspection.
- Inspect the sensor wiring for shorts: Remove the control panel and locate the two‑wire sensor harness. Look for spots where the insulation is melted or rubbed through and the two conductors may be touching. Separate and insulate with high‑temp tape or replace the harness if badly damaged.
- Dry and clean connectors: If the smoker has been stored outdoors or used in heavy rain, disconnect the sensor plug at the control board and at the cabinet penetration. Dry both sides thoroughly, then apply a small amount of dielectric grease to prevent future moisture intrusion.
- Check resistance of the sensor: With the sensor unplugged, measure resistance across the two sensor leads. A dead short (near 0 Ω) or extremely low resistance compared to spec indicates a failed sensor. Replace with an OEM Dyna‑Glo cabinet temperature sensor.
- Inspect the internal probe: Inside the cabinet, verify the probe is not bent into contact with metal racks or the heating element, which can cause abnormal readings. Reposition if necessary.
- Control board check: If the sensor and wiring test good but E2 persists, the control board’s sensor input circuit may be damaged. Inspect the board for burn marks or corrosion. Replacement of the main control board is typically required in this case.
