Possible Causes
Undervoltage or unstable power from outlet, Tripped internal thermal fuse, Blown line fuse on control board, Loose power cord connection at terminal block
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker before opening any panels. Do not work on live circuits.
- Verify outlet and extension cord: Plug a known good appliance into the same outlet to confirm proper voltage. Avoid using long or undersized extension cords; plug the smoker directly into a grounded outlet.
- Inspect the power cord and strain relief: Check where the cord enters the smoker. Remove the rear or bottom panel to access the terminal block. Ensure all screws are tight and there are no signs of arcing or melting.
- Check internal fuses: Many Dyna‑Glo electric smokers have an inline thermal fuse or a small glass/ceramic fuse on the control board. Visually inspect for a blown fuse (broken filament or discoloration). Test with a meter for continuity. Replace only with the same rating and type.
- Thermal fuse inspection: Locate any inline thermal cutoff attached to the cabinet or wiring harness. If open (no continuity), it must be replaced; do not bypass it, as it is a critical safety device.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing any blown fuse or correcting loose connections, reassemble the panels, plug in, and test. If E5 returns immediately, the control board or internal wiring may have a deeper fault and should be evaluated by a technician.
