Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels.
Steps to check the temperature sensor:
- Locate the cooking chamber temperature probe inside the smoker (usually a metal probe protruding from the back or side wall).
- From the rear of the unit, remove the access panel to expose the wiring harness and control board.
- Find the two-wire harness from the temperature probe to the main control board on your GE Profile smoker.
- Inspect the connector for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Use a multimeter to measure resistance across the probe leads. A typical RTD sensor should show a stable resistance (often around 1000–1100 Ω at room temperature). Infinite or near-zero resistance indicates a failed sensor.
- If the sensor is open/shorted or physically damaged, replace it with a GE-compatible cooking chamber temperature sensor for your specific Profile smoker model.
- Reassemble the rear panel, plug the unit back in, and test for normal operation.
If E1 persists after sensor replacement and wiring checks, the fault may be on the control board and professional service is recommended.
