Possible Causes
Damaged meat probe cable, Broken probe tip, Loose probe jack connection, Failed probe input circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker before working near the control panel.
Probe checks:
- Inspect the GE Profile meat probe for kinks, cuts, or melted insulation along the cable. Replace the probe if any damage is found.
- Ensure the probe is fully inserted into the probe jack on the control panel until it clicks or seats firmly.
- Test the probe with a multimeter by measuring resistance across the plug terminals; compare to expected values (commonly 1–2 kΩ at room temperature). Infinite or erratic readings indicate a bad probe.
- Try a known-good GE-compatible meat probe if available to rule out a control board issue.
If multiple good probes fail to register, the probe input circuit on the control board is likely defective and the board should be replaced.
