Possible Causes

Failed smoke generator motor, Jammed wood chip auger or tray, Burned motor wiring, Faulty motor driver circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the smoker and allow all internal components to cool.

Clearing jams and checking the motor:

  • Remove the wood chip tray or smoke box assembly according to the user manual.
  • Inspect for swollen, charred, or wedged wood chips that could be jamming the feeder mechanism. Discard any charred or resin-heavy chips.
  • Manually rotate the auger or feeder shaft (if accessible) to ensure it moves freely. If it is seized, clean and remove debris until it turns smoothly.
  • Access the side or bottom panel where the smoke generator motor is mounted.
  • Check the motor wiring harness and connectors for heat damage or loose connections. Reseat connectors.
  • With the motor disconnected, measure its resistance; an open circuit indicates a failed motor that must be replaced with a GE-compatible smoke generator motor.
  • If the motor tests good and moves freely, the issue may be the motor driver on the control board, requiring board replacement.
