Possible Causes
Failed temperature probe (cabinet sensor), Broken or loose sensor wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels.
- Inspect the cabinet temperature sensor: Locate the small metal probe inside the smoker cabinet (usually on a side wall). Check that it is firmly mounted and not physically damaged or covered in heavy grease.
- Check the sensor wiring: Trace the two wires from the probe to the back of the cabinet and into the control housing. Look for cuts, burns, or rodent damage. Reseat any in-line connectors by unplugging and firmly reconnecting them.
- Test continuity: With a multimeter set to ohms, disconnect the sensor from the control board and measure resistance across the sensor leads. An open (OL) reading indicates a failed sensor that must be replaced.
- Clean connectors: If the sensor tests good, lightly clean the sensor plug and the mating connector on the control board with electrical contact cleaner, then reconnect.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall any covers, plug the smoker back in, and power on. If E1 persists, the sensor is likely out of range or the control board input is faulty and the sensor should be replaced first.
