Possible Causes
Failed ambient sensor near air intake, Loose auxiliary sensor connector on control board, Damaged sensor harness from door pinch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker before accessing sensors or wiring.
- Locate auxiliary sensor: Some GE electric smokers use a second sensor near the air intake or exhaust. Refer to your model diagram and locate this probe.
- Inspect for damage: Check the sensor body and wiring for kinks, cuts, or pinch points, especially around the door and cabinet seams.
- Check connections: Trace the harness back to the control board and ensure the connector is fully seated and free of corrosion.
- Test sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the service specifications. A reading far outside the expected range indicates a failed sensor.
- Secure harness: Use high-temperature cable ties to keep the harness away from hot surfaces and moving parts.
