Possible Causes
Failed wood chip tray heater, Chip tray not seated correctly, Using wet or oversized wood chunks, Low cabinet temperature setting
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use heat-resistant gloves when handling the chip tray.
- Verify tray placement: Ensure the wood chip tray is fully inserted and seated on its heating surface or above the chip tray heater as designed.
- Use proper chips: Use dry, small wood chips recommended by GE. Large chunks or soaked chips may not ignite properly in electric smokers.
- Check temperature setting: Smoke production is better at moderate to higher temperatures. If running at very low settings, increase the set temperature slightly.
- Test tray heater: With the smoker preheated, carefully slide the tray out slightly and feel for heat (without touching metal surfaces). If there is no heat, test the chip tray heater circuit as described in the E7 procedure.
