Possible Causes
Shorted temperature sensor (NTC probe), Sensor wiring shorted to chassis, Failed control board temperature input circuit, Grease or moisture contamination on sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker and let it cool fully before inspection.
Steps:
- Locate the temperature sensor: Inside the cooking chamber, find the small metal probe or stud (often on the back wall or side wall). On Klarstein smokers this is typically a stainless probe connected by two wires to the control board.
- Visual inspection: Check for heavy grease buildup, burnt residue, or moisture around the probe. Clean gently with a soft cloth and mild degreaser; avoid bending the probe.
- Check wiring: Access the rear panel and trace the sensor wires to the control board. Look for pinched, melted, or bare wires touching the metal cabinet. Repair or replace damaged wiring and secure with high‑temperature cable ties.
- Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor from the board and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature, an NTC sensor typically reads between 5–100 kΩ (exact value depends on model). If it reads near 0 Ω (short) or is wildly out of range, replace the sensor.
- Control board: If wiring and sensor are good but E2 remains, the temperature input circuit on the main PCB may be defective. Replacement of the control board is required.
Note: Do not bypass the temperature sensor; it is a critical safety component.
