Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker before removing the control panel or accessing the electronics.
Steps to attempt recovery:
- Power reset: Disconnect the smoker from mains for at least 5–10 minutes to allow capacitors to discharge. Plug back in and check if E5 clears.
- Inspect control panel connections: Remove the front control panel bezel (usually held by screws from the rear). Verify that the ribbon cable or harness between the display/control panel and the main board is fully seated and not damaged.
- Check for moisture: Look for signs of condensation or water intrusion on the control board. If present, dry gently with a soft cloth and allow several hours of air drying before reassembly.
- Visual inspection of PCB: With the board exposed, look for burnt components, cracked solder joints, or bulging capacitors. If any are found, the board should be replaced rather than repaired at home.
- Reassemble: Refit the control panel, ensuring no wires are pinched. Test operation.
Note: Persistent E5 after these checks almost always indicates a defective main control board that must be replaced with the correct Landmann part number.
