Possible Causes

Transient power surge causing MCU lockup, Corrupted firmware on control board, Failing control board power regulation, Loose neutral or line connection to control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off and unplug the smoker before working on the control area.

Steps to attempt recovery:

  • Hard reset: Unplug the smoker for at least 15 minutes. Press and hold the power button (if accessible) for 10 seconds while unplugged to help discharge internal circuits. Plug back in and test.
  • Check supply connections: Remove the control housing and verify that the line and neutral wires are firmly attached to the control board terminals. Tighten any loose screws.
  • Inspect for surge damage: Look for burn marks or damaged components on the control board. If present, the board must be replaced.
  • Use a surge protector: After repair, operate the smoker through a quality surge protector to reduce future MCU lockups.

Important: Persistent E8 or repeated freezing indicates a failing control board. Replacement of the main control module is typically required; firmware is not user-serviceable.
