Possible Causes
Cabinet temperature sensor probe unplugged, Cabinet temperature sensor probe wire broken, Temperature sensor connector corroded or loose, Control board sensor input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker from the outlet before removing any panels. Allow the smoker to cool completely if it was recently in use.
- Check the sensor connection: Open the control housing or rear access panel (depending on model). Locate the small metal temperature probe inside the cabinet and trace its wire to the control board. Make sure the plug is fully seated and not corroded.
- Inspect the sensor wire: Look for cuts, melted insulation, or pinched sections where the wire passes through the cabinet. If damaged, the temperature sensor assembly should be replaced.
- Clean the connector: If you see light corrosion, unplug the sensor and clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, then reconnect firmly.
- Test continuity: With a multimeter set to ohms, test the sensor leads (with the unit unplugged). An open reading (infinite resistance) indicates a failed sensor that must be replaced.
- Control board check: If a known-good sensor still triggers Err1, the control board’s sensor input may be faulty and the board will need replacement.
