Possible Causes

Cabinet temperature sensor reading low, Sensor coated with heavy grease or soot, Control relay stuck closed, High-limit thermostat bypassed or failed closed

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the smoker and allow it to cool completely. Do not operate unattended if it is overheating.

  • Clean the sensor: Locate the cabinet temperature sensor inside the smoker (small metal probe). Gently clean off grease and soot with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then dry thoroughly.
  • Compare with reference thermometer: Place a reliable oven thermometer inside and run the smoker at a low setpoint. If the actual temperature is much higher than displayed, the sensor is likely faulty.
  • Inspect control board: If the element continues heating even when the set temperature is reached or the unit is turned off, the heating relay on the control board may be stuck closed and the board must be replaced.
  • Check high-limit thermostat: Verify that the high-limit thermostat is wired correctly and has not been bypassed. Replace if it shows signs of overheating or damage.
