Possible Causes

Drifted NTC temperature sensor, Loose sensor connection, Faulty ADC (analog-to-digital converter) on control board, Heavy grease or soot insulating sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug and allow the smoker to cool before cleaning or disassembly.

  • Clean the sensor: Using a degreaser safe for cooking appliances, clean the temperature sensor probe thoroughly to remove baked-on grease and soot. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.
  • Check harness and connector: Access the rear of the sensor and ensure the harness is intact and firmly connected to the main control PCB. Look for any signs of heat damage or corrosion.
  • Perform a basic sensor test (optional): With a multimeter set to resistance, measure the sensor at room temperature and compare to the expected NTC value from service documentation (commonly around 100kΩ at 25°C, but verify for your model). Large deviations indicate a bad sensor.
  • Replace sensor if suspect: Install a new Ninja-compatible NTC sensor probe, routing the harness as originally installed.
  • Control board consideration: If a new sensor does not resolve E05, the control board’s measurement circuit may be faulty and the main control PCB will need replacement.
