Possible Causes
Open (burned out) heating element, Loose element spade connectors, Broken element wiring harness, Failed heating relay on main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker and ensure it is cool before working near the element.
- Visual inspection: Remove racks and drip tray to expose the heating element. Look for breaks, blisters, or burn marks along the element.
- Check connections: Access the rear of the element and verify that both spade connectors are firmly attached and not oxidized or burned. Clean light oxidation with fine emery cloth; replace overheated connectors.
- Continuity test: With a multimeter, test the element terminals for continuity. An infinite reading indicates an open element that must be replaced.
- Harness inspection: Follow the wires from the element to the control board, checking for damage or loose plugs.
- Relay/board issue: If the element tests good and wiring is intact, the heating relay or triac on the main control PCB may have failed. Board replacement is typically required.
