Smoker displays E09 and will not heat; fan and lights may still operate.

Safety first: Unplug the smoker and ensure it is cool before working near the element.

• Visual inspection: Remove racks and drip tray to expose the heating element. Look for breaks, blisters, or burn marks along the element.
• Check connections: Access the rear of the element and verify that both spade connectors are firmly attached and not oxidized or burned. Clean light oxidation with fine emery cloth; replace overheated connectors.
• Continuity test: With a multimeter, test the element terminals for continuity. An infinite reading indicates an open element that must be replaced.
• Harness inspection: Follow the wires from the element to the control board, checking for damage or loose plugs.
• Relay/board issue: If the element tests good and wiring is intact, the heating relay or triac on the main control PCB may have failed. Board replacement is typically required.
