Old Smokey electric smoker makes unusual buzzing, humming, or clicking noises from the control area.

Safety first: Unplug the smoker before opening the control panel. Do not touch live components.

Steps to address unusual noises:

• 1. Identify noise source: With the smoker briefly powered (if safe), listen carefully to locate the area of the noise (relay, transformer, loose panel). Then unplug before proceeding.
• 2. Tighten hardware: Tighten screws securing the control board, transformer, and panel to reduce vibration.
• 3. Check line voltage: Verify the outlet voltage is within normal range. Low voltage can cause relays to chatter.
• 4. Inspect relay and transformer: Look for signs of overheating or damage. A relay that chatters or a transformer that hums loudly may be failing and require control board replacement.
• 5. Replace the control module if needed: Install a new OEM control board if noise is accompanied by erratic operation or visible damage.

Note: A soft click when the element cycles on and off is normal. Continuous rapid clicking or loud buzzing is not.
