Possible Causes

Shorted internal temperature sensor, moisture inside sensor connector, damaged sensor cable insulation, control board sensor circuit failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the smoker before working on it.

  • Inspect the sensor and wiring: Locate the internal temperature probe and follow its cable to the back of the smoker. Look for melted insulation, bare wires touching each other, or moisture inside the connector.
  • Dry and clean connectors: If there is condensation or grease inside the sensor plug, dry it thoroughly and clean with electrical contact cleaner. Reconnect firmly.
  • Test resistance: Disconnect the probe from the control board and measure resistance with a multimeter. A near-zero reading indicates a shorted probe that must be replaced.
  • Replace the probe: Install a new cabinet temperature sensor probe if the old one is shorted or physically damaged.
  • Control board check: If a known-good probe still gives Er2, the control board sensor circuit may be shorted internally. Replace the main control board.
