Possible Causes
Corrupted control board memory, failed microcontroller, power surge damage, manufacturing defect in control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker before working on the control panel.
- Hard reset: Unplug the smoker for at least 15 minutes. Press and hold the power button (if accessible) for 10 seconds while unplugged to discharge capacitors, then plug back in.
- Check for firmware reset procedure: Some Pit Boss models may support a factory reset sequence (consult your manual). Perform it if available.
- Inspect board: Remove the control panel and look for obvious damage or corrosion on the control board.
- Replace control board: If Er9 persists, the internal memory is likely corrupted. Replace the main control board with an OEM Pit Boss part.
