Possible Causes
User accidentally set program mode, control board locked in preheat or protection mode, keypad input error, firmware glitch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the smoker is on a stable surface and away from flammable materials.
- Check user manual: On some Pit Boss electric smokers, P1 indicates a specific program or preheat mode. Verify that you are not in a preset program that limits temperature changes.
- Exit program mode: Press the Stop or Power button to end the current program, then reselect your desired temperature and time.
- Power cycle: If the display is stuck on P1, unplug the smoker for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in and try again.
- Keypad test: Confirm that all buttons respond. If some keys do not work, the keypad may be failing and require replacement.
- Control board replacement: If P1 cannot be cleared and the smoker will not operate normally, replace the main control board or control panel assembly as specified for your model.
