Possible Causes
Shorted temperature sensor reading too low, stuck heater relay on control board, failed high-limit thermostat stuck closed, sensor dislodged from cabinet wall
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker immediately if it overheats. Keep it away from combustible materials.
- Verify sensor placement: Ensure the internal temperature probe is firmly mounted to the wall and not hanging near the element or touching racks.
- Clean sensor: Heavy grease buildup can insulate the probe and cause inaccurate readings. Clean with a degreaser and soft cloth.
- Compare with external thermometer: Use an oven thermometer to confirm actual temperature versus display. If the display is much lower, replace the cabinet temperature sensor probe.
- Check heater relay: With the smoker unplugged, inspect the control board. If the heater relay contacts are welded closed (burned or stuck), the element may stay on continuously. Replace the main control board.
- High-limit test: Test the high-limit thermostat for proper operation. Replace if it does not open at its rated temperature.
