Possible Causes
Loose or disconnected temperature probe wiring, Failed temperature sensor (RTD/thermistor), Corroded sensor connector at control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels.
- Check sensor connection: Open the rear or bottom access panel (depending on model). Locate the temperature sensor wires coming from the cooking chamber to the control board. Ensure the plug is fully seated and not corroded.
- Inspect sensor lead: Follow the sensor lead inside the cabinet. Look for cuts, burns, or pinched spots where the wire passes through the cabinet wall.
- Clean connectors: If you see light corrosion on the sensor plug, disconnect power, unplug the connector, and clean the pins with electrical contact cleaner. Reconnect firmly.
- Test continuity: With a multimeter set to ohms, measure resistance across the sensor leads. An open (OL) reading indicates a failed sensor that must be replaced.
- Replace sensor if needed: Remove the mounting screw or nut holding the sensor probe inside the smoker, pull the probe and wire out, and install a new OEM Smokehouse temperature sensor, routing the wire through the same grommet and reconnecting to the control board.
