Possible Causes
Shorted heating element relay on control board, Temperature sensor reading low, Stuck high-limit thermostat bypassed or failed closed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker immediately if it overheats. Do not leave it unattended until the issue is resolved.
- Confirm with external thermometer: Place a reliable thermometer inside to verify actual temperature versus display.
- Inspect temperature sensor: Ensure the sensor is not coated in heavy grease or soot, which can insulate it and cause low readings. Clean gently with a damp cloth.
- Check sensor wiring: Look for damaged insulation or loose connections that could cause erratic readings.
- Replace sensor if misreading: If the sensor consistently reads lower than actual, install a new Smokehouse temperature sensor probe.
- Control board replacement: If the heater stays on even when the set temperature is reached or when the unit is turned off, the heater relay on the control board may be stuck closed. Replace the main control board; do not attempt to bypass safety devices.
