Possible Causes
New smoker burn-in residue, Melting wire insulation near heating element, Foreign plastic object left inside, Failing control board component overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you smell burning plastic or insulation, unplug the smoker immediately and allow it to cool. Do not continue using until the source is found.
- Initial burn-in: For a new Smokehouse smoker, run an empty burn-in cycle per the manual to burn off manufacturing oils. The smell should dissipate after the first use.
- Inspect interior: Check for any plastic packaging, zip ties, or labels accidentally left inside near the element and remove them.
- Check wiring near element: Access the element area and look for wires too close to the hot surfaces or signs of melted insulation. Reroute and secure wires with high-temp clips and replace any damaged sections.
- Inspect control board: Look for discolored or burnt components. If found, replace the main control board.
