Smokin-It
Insufficient Heating / Underheating
Smoker heats but cannot reach set temperature (stalls well below target)

Possible Causes
Partially failed heating element (high resistance), Low line voltage, Door gasket leaking heat, Temperature sensor misreading high
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker before checking internal wiring or components.
Steps to improve heating:
- Check door seal: Inspect the door gasket for gaps, tears, or hardened sections. Adjust the latch for a tighter seal or replace the gasket if it no longer seals properly.
- Verify power supply: Avoid long or thin extension cords. Plug directly into a dedicated outlet and, if possible, measure voltage under load (should be close to 120V).
- Element test: Measure the resistance of the heating element and compare to the specification for your Smokin-It model. A significantly higher resistance than spec can reduce wattage output; replace the element if out of range.
- Sensor accuracy: Place a reliable oven thermometer inside the smoker and compare to the controller reading. If the controller reads higher than actual, it will shut off early. Replace the temperature sensor if it is misreading.
- Reduce load: Avoid overloading the smoker with very cold meat, which can absorb heat faster than the element can supply. Preheat the smoker before loading.
