Possible Causes
Burned-out heating element, Loose or burnt element terminals, Failed heating element relay on control board, Open high-limit thermostat in series with element
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker and allow it to cool fully before touching the element or wiring.
Diagnostic steps:
- Visual check of element: Inspect the heating element inside the cabinet for breaks, heavy corrosion, or burn marks.
- Terminal inspection: From the rear or bottom access panel, inspect the element terminals and wiring. Tighten any loose nuts and replace burnt connectors.
- Continuity test: Disconnect at least one element lead and measure resistance across the element. An open reading indicates a failed element that must be replaced with a Smokin-It compatible element.
- Check high-limit thermostat: If your model has a high-limit thermostat in series with the element, test it for continuity when cool. Replace if open.
- Control output: If the element and thermostat test good, the control board relay may not be energizing. This typically requires control board replacement.
Note: Always ensure wires are routed away from hot surfaces and sharp edges when reassembling.
